This project gave me the chance to work with one of my favorite stories as the final deliverable. I am very familiar with the story having read it several times. I was able to research the house that was the inspiration for the story and use actual photographs for reference and inspiration. The art deco style for the poster matches the period the story was written during adding another level of realism to the design.

With traditional illustration not being one of my strengths, I knew I would need to work in a style that could reflect the foreboding mood I wanted but would still provide me a way to incorporate a person. The art deco style from the ’20s and ’30s provided a solution, with its geometric shapes, and minimal detail. It also ties into the time when the story was written, 1924.
